 1.   Search Engine Land: The Big AdWords Update: Enhanced Campaigns Puts The Focus On Mobile

During the week Google announced the biggest changes to AdWords in ten years. With the use of mobile and tablet devices becoming increasingly popular it has been time-consuming to target ads by device and location.

Thankfully, Google has updated AdWords to accommodate the recent trends with exciting new features. At Marketing Results we are particularly excited about trying out the bid adjustments based on the user’s device type, location and time of day to increase our clients’ conversions.

2.  ConversionXL: How To Get Traffic That Converts

Awesome blog post by Peep Laja, ConversionXL, explaining how the quality of traffic to a site is far more important than the quantity. Different types of traffic sources converts better than others – and this isn’t the same for every site. What determines your best traffic source is where your customers hang out. So to maximise your conversions you need to fully understand your customers’ behaviour to figure out where to build links to your site. Some great examples and ideas for converting on common traffic sources such as guest blogging and forums are included in the post.

3. Paddy Moogan:  Beyond Link Building – Using Links and Content to Hit Business Goals

An excellent post by Paddy Moogan discussing the evolution of link-building and the SEO industry as a whole. Paddy explains how as an SEO our responsibilities have changed; we shouldn’t build hundreds of pointless links to a client’s site – not just because it is damaging to their search result rankings – but because they do not provide valuable traffic or conversions. I think Paddy hit the nail on the head with this blog post. SEO needs to be smarter and more strategic in order to increase our clients’ revenue.

4. Rand Fishkin: How to Win a Content Arms Race – Whiteboard Friday

Content marketing is here is stay – it is important for both conversions and SEO. But the problem with content is that it is getting boring. Users no longer want to read a 500 word blog post, even if the results are great – we don’t have the patience or time. Rand Fishkin talks us through exciting ways to beat your competitors in the content arms race and keep internet users interested in your content.

5. The Brand Builder: Oreo: Why It Worked

When the lights went out at the Superbowl social media erupted with complaints’ and mockery. A few companies managed to exploit this event and use it to their advantage. The most successful tweet was Oreo’s “You can still dunk in the dark” image that was retweeted over 15,000 times and their Twitter followers increased by about 8,000.

Oliver Blanchard explains how Oreo got it so right; velocity, relevance, wit and execution. Worth a read!
