Traffic Windfall I Just Noticed

April 6, 2009 on 7:58 pm | In General | 12 Comments

I noticed that Marc Dussault recently posted a video to YouTube on how to speed read on screen using a very cool program called Rapid Reader.

What’s interesting is that quite unbeknownst (great word that, unbeknownst) to me, he mentioned Marketing Results and our URL in the video as the source of the tip. That video has now been viewed 38,787 times so far, meaning that (up to) 38,787 people have heard our name and URL as a result.

While I can’t track the type-in traffic that may have resulted directly, this does illustrate the potential worth of providing value to “Sneezers”, who then re-package or re-transmit those ideas to their audience.

  1. This is a great site just like a marketing bible, lots of information to digest, I will definitely bookmark it.

I would say what Marc Dussault did was a very good way to get traffic to a website just like people making great videos about music adding images and then viewers coming in and adding those same very popular videos to their sites or blogs which in turn make them more interesting.

  2. Yeah, that is an often overlooked area of internet marketing. A lot of people spend a lot of time on trying to get that ever precious anchor text and link juice(and rightfully so, that stuff is powerful). But not many people in the industry try to drive traffic through entertaining and creative ways. Like they say “Content is King”.

  3. The video definitely is one possible stream of traffic to your site. Considering that 39,314 have viewed it (including me), you can only expect more people who will get the chance to jot down the url and take the time to visit it.

  12. Embedding URL’s into videos does improve type in traffic. We do it with all of our racing car and other automotive videos that we upload to Youtube and our type in traffic has grown quite a bit because of it.
